Bundesliga powerhouse Borussia Dortmund have bid farewell to Belgian winger Thorgan Hazard, striking a deal with Belgian Pro League outfit RSC Anderlecht.
Hazard's departure marks the conclusion of a summer filled with uncertainty surrounding his future at Dortmund. During the past two seasons, the 30-year-old winger's on-field contributions for Die Schwarzgelben dwindled.
Upon his highly anticipated arrival in 2019, Hazard dazzled in his debut season, notching seven goals and delivering 13 assists in the Bundesliga alone. However, this summer saw Dortmund actively seeking new homes for Hazard and his compatriot, Thomas Meunier, both of whom had slipped down the club's hierarchy.
Interestingly, Hazard's situation took an unexpected turn when Dortmund's coach, Edin Terzic, witnessed a significant improvement in his training performances. This prompted Terzic to include Hazard in his plans as a valuable depth player, particularly in the full-back position. Dortmund's stance on Hazard's future has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride.
While the club initially insisted on offloading players before bringing in new recruits, Hazard's move to Anderlecht arrived too late, with the German transfer window now closed. His departure further exacerbates Dortmund's concerns about squad depth.
For Hazard, the transfer to Anderlecht offers a fresh start and the opportunity to secure crucial playing time. Given his past contributions to the club, many hope he rediscovers his form and becomes a key figure for his new team.
