Tottenham battle back at Ibrox to earn vital Europa League point

Tottenham Hotspur fought back to secure a 1-1 draw against Rangers at a raucous Ibrox Stadium in the UEFA Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou, making his first return to Glasgow since leaving Celtic, guided his side to a hard-earned point after a challenging encounter.

The match marked the first meeting between the sides since 1962 and lived up to its billing as a high-stakes Battle of Britain.

Rangers started brightly, with Vaclav Cerny creating an early chance for Nedim Bajrami, who narrowly missed the target. At the other end, Son Heung-min spurned a golden opportunity, steering James Maddison's cutback wide.

Despite an action-packed first half, both teams lacked composure in the final third, with Spurs goalkeeper Fraser Forster denying Cerny just before the break to keep it goalless.

Rangers capitalised on their strong start to the second half, taking the lead through Hamza Igamane, who continued his hot streak with a sixth goal in six games.

James Tavernier's dangerous cross caused chaos in the Spurs defence, allowing Igamane to slot home and ignite the home crowd.

Postecoglou responded by introducing Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski, a decision that proved pivotal. Kulusevski equalised in the 75th minute, finishing coolly after a clever reverse pass from Solanke.

The Swede's strike ensured Spurs stayed in the hunt for a top-eight finish in their group.

Speaking after the match, Postecoglou praised his side's resilience but criticised Timo Werner, who was substituted at halftime. "Timo's performance wasn't acceptable," he said.

"As a senior player and a German international, I expect more from him."

Postecoglou also lauded his team's response. "Rangers are tough to play against here at Ibrox," he said.

"We showed character to come back and earn a crucial point in a difficult environment."

With both teams locked on 11 points, their Europa League fates remain undecided, but Spurs will take confidence from their spirited comeback heading into the new year.
