Tottenham target Inter Milan's Riccardo Bastoni for summer move

Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a summer transfer for Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni, a player hailed as Italy's best defender by Arsenal's Riccardo Calafiori.

According to Fichajes, the North London outfit do not plan to make a move in the January window but are focused on securing the Italian for the 2025 transfer period.

Bastoni, who has already clinched two Serie A titles and reached a Champions League final with Inter, has been on Tottenham's radar for some time. The club's former Sporting Director Fabio Paratici has long admired Bastoni, though previous attempts to bring him to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have been unsuccessful.

With a long-term contract at Inter, negotiations will not be straightforward for Spurs, who recognize the challenge of competing for a player of Bastoni's stature against clubs with deeper pockets.

Riccardo Calafiori, who shares the pitch with Bastoni for Italy, has praised his teammate, stating, "I like Bastoni's mentality, he plays in a very similar way to mine: he plays very well with the ball, even better than me." This commendation underlines Bastoni's appeal not just to Tottenham but to any club looking for a versatile and technically adept defender.

Spurs' interest in Bastoni stems partly from their failure to secure either Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite or Lens' Abdukodir Khusanov.

Branthwaite's move is complicated by Everton's precarious position in the relegation zone, with new manager David Moyes unlikely to sanction a sale mid-season.

Khusanov, on the other hand, seems set to join Manchester City in a deal valued at 33.5 million pounds.

In their pursuit of bolstering the squad, Tottenham have also made a bid for Barcelona's Ansu Fati following their recent defeat to Arsenal, which has dimmed their top-four aspirations. Fati, however, faces competition from West Ham United and Besiktas.

Additionally, Lille's Jonathan David, who could be a free agent come summer, has been offered to Spurs as they continue their search for a new striker after Randal Kolo Muani's decision not to join.

On the defensive front, Tottenham can breathe easy about Pedro Porro, as Real Madrid have shifted their focus to loan options like Chelsea's Reece James, rather than pursuing a costly move for Porro in January.

This flurry of transfer activity reflects Tottenham's ambition under Ange Postecoglou to strengthen the squad for a serious challenge in the upcoming season.
