TS Galaxy and Stellenbosch progress in Nedbank Cup

TS Galaxy saw off Golden Arrows as Stellenbosch defeated Pretoria Callies to progress to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.

Golden Arrows 1-2 TS Galaxy

TS Galaxy secured their place in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup with a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows.

Lehlohonolo Mojela opened the scroring for the Rockets away from home at the Mpumalanga Stadium on just 11 minutes.

A Kganyane Letsoenyo own-goal with 17 minutes on the clock levelled the score, until a 67th minute winner from Mpho Mvelase.

Play was initially suspended as the lights went out at the stadium, but it was the Rockets who made the most of the delay with a good early goal with a confident first-time strike from Mojela.

Letsoenyo was unfortunate to turn a Siyanda Mthathi cut-back into his own net but the goal only seemed to spur the away team on, and Mojela continued to look for chances.

John Mwengani may well have put Arrows ahead after the break but was guilty of missing the target.

Both sides pressed for a winner but it was the more lively Galaxy who claimed the result, with a good header from Mvelase to beat Sifiso Mlungwana in the Arrows goal.

Stellenbosch 1-1 Pretoria Callies

Stellenbosch needed penalties to see off Pretoria Callies in their Nedbank Cup last 32 clash at the Danie Craven Stadium on Friday evening.

The two sides had played out a 1-1 draw with Devin Titus on target for the hosts on 66 minutes, ahead of an 87th minute equaliser from substitute Leandro De Sousa.

Callies were first to step up for the spot-kicks, with Siphelele Mthembu firing his side into the lead.

Mervin Boji then missed for Stellies, but Tebogo Lekaba saw his kick saved by Oscarine Masuluke.

Nhlanhla Mgaga restored parity but Callies kept pace until Sean Ledwaba was also denied, leaving Kyle Jurgens to score the winning penalty and secure his side's passage to the last 16 with a 4-3 victory.

Stellies will have particularly enjoyed this result after being knocked out of last season's Nedbank Cup in the semi-finals by Sekhukhune United on penalties.
