TS Galaxy Queens coach believes adhering to club identity is key to success

The Rockets are deemed as one the most consistent and successful teams in the elite league, having secured the top four spot in the last three seasons.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Sibiya believes players and the technical team should work together to maintain club structure to accomplish a successful run.

"Go and check the numbers of last season, all the numbers were pointing at third spot. The goals scored, the goals conceded, you know things like that. They were pointing at third spot, it would be unfair, the gods will be unfair if we were to finish fourth again but anyways, it is like that," Sibiya said.

"Then in terms of bringing in new players, you know with us, there's a certain way that the team plays. I think it's evident also with the boys side, the PSL side, no matter who they bring, they don't change how they play.

“It's always great if you have a structure of how you want your team to play, how the team plays. If the team recognises identity, not the coach, not the players but if the team, the head recognises the identity of how they want their team to play believe you me, even when they handpick a coach, they don't just pick a coach that is going to come now with their own things, their own way of wanting to play a certain way."

Sibiya has had the privilege of rotating his team in the 2024 season while maintaining a winning culture having secured 20 wins, five draws and five losses in 30 league games.

He unpacks his unique form of profiling players.

"You don't just watch a player for one match and say this one is a brilliant player, no, no, no, it doesn't work that way. I'm robust if you come to me, you tell me that this so and so player is good and stuff like that, we sit down me and you [to discuss that] I've been watching this player, can you tell me about this game. How do you see her performance in this game?,” Sibiya added.

“Then you find that what you are selling me and the reality of what we are looking at doesn't match. I've got all my midfielders, all my starters, they have eight goals and above, that should tell you of the class, of the quality that I have in the team.

“Now, if you tell me that there's a midfielder that does this and that, I'd show you the numbers that in the whole 90 minutes this player only touches the ball 30 times and in the 30 times they lose it for 23 times. You know they pass it to the opponent, they pass it outside and then you want to bring this player here where midfielders are not apologetic about their numbers and their passes. You need to be realistic also as a scout."
