Tunisia and former Sunderland striker Wahbi Khazri has officially announced his retirement from international football after crashing out of the World Cup.

Khazri netted a produced a moment of individual brilliance against France in their final match of the group stage. Despite the win, the Eagles of Carthage did not make it through to the knockout stages and a few days after their exit one of their most experienced and high-profile players has decided to hang up his boots.

Khazri scored 25 times in 75 appearances for the North Africans and holds the joint record for the most goals (3) scored by an Arab player in World Cup history.

âœI told the team about my decision yesterday after the match in a meeting at the hotel," said the 31-year-old.

"I think it's the right time after five Africa Cup of Nations and two World Cups. I made my wife, children, and family proud. Playing for my country was exceptional.

"The victory over France is one of the best moments in my career. I thank all the players who stood by my side in good and bad times."
