UEFA Nations League wrap: Hungary draw with Germany to hang on for playoff spot

Hungary and Germany played out a 1-1 draw in Budapest, with Dominik Szoboszlai's last-gasp penalty stealing the headlines.

Hungary 1-1 Germany

The first half was a cagey affair, with few clear-cut chances. Hungary's attempts to break through were thwarted by Germany's goalkeeper Alexander Nuebel, making only his second international appearance.

RB Leipzig defender Benjamin Henrichs had Germany's best opportunity but couldn't convert.

The game came alive in the second half. Felix Nmecha, starting for Germany for the first time, broke the deadlock in the 76th minute.

Florian Wirtz, introduced as a substitute, delivered a pinpoint corner, setting up Nmecha to score a memorable debut goal.

Hungary pushed for an equaliser, and their efforts were rewarded deep into stoppage time. After a VAR review, Robin Koch was penalised for handball.

Szoboszlai, Hungary's captain, stepped up with a Panenka-style penalty, sending Denes Dibusz and the home crowd into jubilation.

The result saw Hungary remain third in their Nations League group and secure a spot in the playoffs.

Germany, having already guaranteed top spot, now look ahead to a potential quarter-final clash with Croatia, Italy, or Denmark.

Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-1 Netherlands

In their final UEFA Nations League Group A3 match at Stadion Bilino Polje, the Netherlands and Bosnia-Herzegovina played out a 1-1 draw.

The Netherlands struck first in the 24th minute through Brian Brobbey. The forward nodded in a well-placed header from Noa Lang's short corner, giving the visitors an early advantage.

Despite their dominance in the first half, reflected by an xG of 1.29, the Netherlands failed to capitalise further.

Bosnia-Herzegovina, initially subdued with no shots on target in the opening half, grew into the game after the break. Their persistence paid off in the 67th minute when Ermedin Demirović found the net.

The striker pounced on a rebound after Edin Dzeko's powerful shot was parried by Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

The match wasn't short on drama. Edin Dzeko had a potential goal disallowed just after the hour mark for a foul, and Jorrel Hato showcased his defensive prowess for the Netherlands, clearing a Dzeko effort off the line in the first half.

The Netherlands, having already secured a quarter-final spot, finished the group stage with 9 points.
