Despite initial difficulties, the transfer is not impossible as the club is now reportedly offering an 18-month loan deal with a significant portion of Niguez's wages, which total around six million Euros per year.
Valencia coach Gennaro Gattuso is seeking a player with experience at the highest level, and Niguez fits the bill as a versatile player who can play both as a defensive and attacking midfielder.
The addition of Niguez would bring a wealth of experience to Valencia's midfield, which currently features Yunus Musah, Andres Almeida and Ilaix Moriba.
Despite breaking through at Atletico Madrid and being sought after by some of the world's top clubs, Niguez's form has dropped in recent years, and he has fallen out of favour at Atletico.
A loan spell at Chelsea last season failed to revive his form. However, Valencia sees potential in Niguez and are looking to give him a fresh start.
Valencia currently sits 13th in La Liga with 20 points, with a record of five wins, four draws, and two losses when leading at any point in the game. Only Elche and Sevilla have worse records.
With Niguez in the midfield, the club hopes to solidify their position in the league and make a push for a spot in the top half of the table.
