Victor Osimhen blow for Nigeria ahead of crucial AFCON qualifiers

Nigeria's preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers have suffered a setback as star striker Victor Osimhen was ruled out of the doubleheader against Libya.

The Super Eagles will face Libya at home on 11 October and away in Tripoli on 15 October, but Osimhen's absence due to injury has left a void in their attacking plans.

Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, sustained an injury during his impressive performance against Kasimpasa, where he scored a brace, including his debut goal for the Turkish giants.

His standout performance was marred by the muscle strain he picked up during the match, forcing him to miss Galatasaray's 2-2 draw against Latvian side FC RFS in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

A statement from Galatasaray, reported by A Spor, confirmed the injury. "The treatment of our player Victor Osimhen, who felt pain in his upper left posterior muscle during the Kasimpasa match, has begun.

"He was diagnosed with strain and bleeding in the muscle group."

Though the injury is not considered severe, Osimhen is expected to return after the international break.

In his absence, Nigeria's interim coach Augustine Eguavoen faces the challenge of finding a suitable replacement to lead the Super Eagles' attack in these critical AFCON qualifiers.
