Despite conceding early, Bayern staged a strong comeback to claim their first away win of the competition this season and solidify their position in the top eight of the league phase.
Shakhtar opened the scoring in the 5th minute through Kevin Santos, following a well-timed pass from Oleksandr Zubkov.
However, Bayern responded quickly with Konrad Laimer equalising in the 11th minute. Just before halftime, Thomas Muller capitalised on Jamal Musiala's set-up to put the visitors ahead.
In the second half, Michael Olise made a significant impact, scoring twice -first from the penalty spot and later with a skilful individual effort in added time.
Jamal Musiala also added his name to the scoresheet, capping off a standout performance. Despite some early pressure from Shakhtar, Bayern dominated the latter stages to secure a comprehensive winâ.
"We kept our cool after their early goal. We were the better team in the first half, although it was not our best period. Our performance improved later and it was good to play today," said Kompany.
"In a way overall, we were dominant, we had more chances than the opponent. But of course, we can always play better."
This result moved Bayern to 12 points, ensuring their place in the automatic qualification positions for the next phase, while Shakhtar remained at the lower end of the standings with four pointsâ.
When Kompany was asked about Muller's future at Die Roten, he added: "Let's talk about these 90 minutes. His goal was the quality he has always had in his career, to be in the right place at the right time.
"His energy, passion and leadership, it is very important for us to have a mix of experienced and young players. He has a very important role on and off the field. But I will not talk about the future now."
