Wayne Sandilands set to join Fadlu Davids in Tanzania

SABC Sport has established that AmaZulu goalkeeper coach Wayne Sandilands is believed to have been offered the same role in Tanzania.

According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns keeper could be following his countryman Fadlu Davids to Simba SC should he accept the job.

Davids spent the 2023/24 season as assistant coach to Józef Zinnbauer at Raja Casablanca, where they pair clinched an incredible league and cup double in Morocco – beating Kaizer Chiefs-bound mentor Nasreddine Nabi, who was in charge of rivals FAR Rabat, to both those titles.

When Simba came knocking, Davids reportedly accepted the offer with Zinnbauer understood to be eyeing a move to the Gulf region.

Sandilands was appointed Usuthu goalie coach exactly a year ago following technical team changes at his previous employer Maritzburg United, where worked with Davids and the technical team there unable to save the club from relegation.

Davids moved to Morocco and Sandilands moved across town and the pair could reunite in Tanzania over a new project.

It’s not yet clear who AmaZulu will line-up should Sandilands, as expected, accept the offer to take up the Simba role with the new season getting underway within a month.

The 40-year-old has had an illustrious career and continues to impress with his work as a goalkeeper coach since retiring.
