Wolfsburg lose key Croatia international midfielder Lovro Majer to injury

Croatia midfielder Lovro Majer will be sidelined for at least three weeks after sustaining an injury in Wolfsburg's 2-0 win over Holstein Kiel at the weekend.

Die Wolfe revealed on Monday that the 26-year-old injured ligaments in his right ankle during the game and was taken off just before half-time.

Majer will now undergo treatment at the Croatian national team camp in close consultation with Wolfsburg.

The playmaker, who has established himself as a key member of the first-team squad, bagged a brace in Wolfsburg's 2-3 defeat against Bayern Munich on Matchday 1.

He made 32 appearances for the Green and Whites last season, scoring five goals and making five assists.

"VfL Wolfsburg will have to do without Lovro Majer until further notice after the 26-year-old midfielder injured ligaments in his right ankle during the away victory over Holstein Kiel," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Majer is currently with the Croatia national team, where he will undergo further treatment in close consultation with VfL's medical department."
