The 31-year-old was a surprise exit from Mamelodi Sundowns last month, with then-coach Rulani Mokwena claiming it was a decision taken by sporting director Flemming Berg before he too left the Tshwane giants acrimoniously.
Mokwena has since been hired by Wydad, and is understood to be influential in the club’s pursuit of Zungu after openly confirming he would be interested in adding the player as one of his signings at The Red Castle.
But the Botola Pro League side must first settle their debts and overturn their FIFA sanction, which is preventing them from registering fresh faces.
According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, Zungu is also being courted by a club in Kuwait and another in Saudi Arabia, as he is currently a free agent and can put pen to paper at any moment.
Zungu recently took a short break to Turkey, but has returned home to South Africa while his representatives continue talks with his potential suitors.
Reports that the player completed a medical in Morocco over the last several days have been denied, with Zungu yet to make a final decision on where he will play his football when the 2024/25 season gets underway.
The Bafana Bafana international rejoined Sundowns in July 2022 after spending six years in Europe playing for Guimaraes in Portugal, then French outfit Amiens as well as a brief loan spell at Scottish giants Rangers under Steven Gerrard.
Zungu made 30 appearances for Sundowns last season before the announcement that the option on his contract would not be exercised.
