Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen brilliance praised by Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas, now at the helm of Como in Serie B, has steered his team to a promising second position, hinting at a potential Serie A promotion.

In a recent collaboration with a UEFA Enterprise sponsor during the Europa League phase, the former Spanish midfielder didn't hesitate to shower praise on his ex-teammate Xabi Alonso and his Bayer Leverkusen side.

"I believe Leverkusen is at a stage where everything they touch turns to gold. They can keep winning, even with 10 men.

"They have a strong mentality. They feel this form, that everything they touch turns into a goal," Fabregas remarked, acknowledging Leverkusen's remarkable run of form.

Leverkusen remain undefeated this season, with an impressive streak of 46 matches without defeat, clinching their first-ever Bundesliga title.

Fabregas and Alonso share a long-standing friendship from their days with the Spanish National Team.

When asked if he foresaw Alonso's coaching prowess, Fabregas reflected, "It's always difficult to say. Sometimes, I was asked the same questions about Lionel Messi. Could you see at 12 years old that Leo Messi would become the greatest player in history? No."

Despite uncertainties, Fabregas expressed confidence in Alonso's capabilities, citing his intelligence, humility, and hard work.

While acknowledging Leverkusen's strength, Como's current coach sees the Europa League semifinal tie against AS Roma as evenly matched.

"The Roma - Bayer Leverkusen match-up in the semifinals is a very good game. It's very, very tight. It's a 50-50," Fabregas commented, anticipating an enthralling contest on Thursday night.
