UFC boss Dana White has long teased African fans with a showcase on the African continent, but talk died down after the Three Kings - Francis Ngannou, Israel Adesanya and Kamaru Usman - all lost their UFC belts in quick succession.

However, South African UFC star Dricus du Plessis' meteoric rise to the top of the middleweight division has rekindled the plans, as White referred to at Sunday's UFC 304 post-fight press conference.

Du Plessis is set to defend his title against former champion Adesanya in Perth at UFC 305 on 17 August and a victory would almost certainly see the promotion finally take concrete steps to host a marquee event in Africa.

"Obviously, this fight that is going to happen in Australia will determine our trip to Africa," White told the press in London this weekend.

"I know everyone doesn't want to count South Africa as Africa, but I do. So, more than likely, our first fight in Africa will be in South Africa.

"We are working on other venues, but I don't know what progress has been made right now as sit here."
