Gary Kirsten's Pakistan reign to begin against England after Gujarat Titans' IPL elimination

Kirsten, who was closely considered for the England job in 2018 and again in 2022, was appointed last month alongside new Test team coach Jason Gillespie.

The South African is currently with Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but, with the franchise unable to reach the knockout stages, it has now been confirmed he will link up with the side ahead of a the four-match T20 series which begins at Headingley next Wednesday.

Kirsten, who has previously coached the Proteas and India and had an unsuccessful stint in charge of Welsh Fire in The Hundred, arrives in Leeds at the weekend to formally start work.

"I'm truly excited to embark on this new journey with the Pakistan men's cricket team. It's an honor to coach such a talented and dynamic team, and I'm eager to contribute to their success on the international stage," he said.

"These are indeed thrilling times for Pakistan cricket, with a new administration and players who are driven to deliver solid results.
