MI Cape Town claim new record at home ahead of the SA20 1st Qualifier

MI Cape Town head coach Robin Peterson is pleased to see some stability in the team this season, after a dominant display over Pretoria Capitals to claim an unbeaten run at Newlands in the SA20.

They wrapped up their final league match by 95 runs over Capitals in Cape Town on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking at the post-match presser, Peterson says he is impressed with each player showing up in their respective roles ahead of the 1st Qualifiers against Paarl Royals on Tuesday.

"I just think that we've added a few experienced players to the dressing room so there's a bit of calm there, a bit more leadership alongside getting Rashid [Khan] back. He's been outstanding in the background, just leading the boys and guys like Rassie [Van der Dussen], Ricks [Reeza Hendricks], Dane Piedt, Colin Ingram,” Peterson said.

“I mean I can speak on the whole squad, Trent Boult. It has added a lot of stability within the dressing room so I think that's been the biggest difference is they wanna win, they wanna support each other.

“They understand that they take nothing for granted because they've experienced a lot of pain, the guys in the dressing room for the last two years and they are just enjoying the cricket at the moment and I think each other's company."

MI Cape Town climbed to first place of the log with 35 points, and seven points ahead of Royals.

Peterson says he credits the vast experience in the current crop and believes it has been key to the team’s winning momentum.

"Even Matthew Potts, he's played a lot of international cricket, so they come with a wealth of experience. They know it's important that we don't just go through the motions in this game and still try and win it, regardless of the amount of changes that we made,” he added.

“It's nice to lean on them, I don't have to do as much I think, Rashi's leadership has been instrumental to be honest and the way he's grown into the position as the season has progressed has been [amazing].

“I can take off my hat for him, he's been amazing, the way he rallies the troops, even sacrificing. He wanted to play at Newlands the last game at home but he was willing to sacrifice his position so Thomas Kaber can play, which speaks volumes of him as a captain and a leader within our team."
