Breaking: PSL clubs vote to dismiss Royal AM

Representatives of all 31 professional teams – minus the affected Royal AM – came together at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Thursday morning to deliberate the merits of the case. 

The Exco, led by chairman Irvin Khoza, had proposed that Thwihli Thwahla be expelled after failing to honour their domestic fixtures at the start of the year and opening a can of worms that left the League with no choice but to suspend them indefinitely. 

SABC Sport earlier broke the news that Royal AM were under SARS curatorship over a tax debt reported to be around R40-million linked to president Shauwn Mkhize, as well as her family trust. 

With the KZN outfit having only played 11 matches in the Betway Premiership this season, it now means all points gained by and against Royal AM have been rendered null and void.

As a result, the 15th-placed side will go into the relegation/promotin play-offs, with all teams finishing the campaign on 28 matches.
