The SARS curator, having taken ownership of the team to recoup a tax debt of around R15-million, informed member clubs that Edward Modise, Eugene Botha and Global Investments, owned by Durban businessman Roy Moodley, all bid to takeover Thwihli Thwahla.
However, all three failed after they did not meet the criteria for any sale agreement to go through and be endorsed by the PSL.
Royal AM have now officially had their membership terminated following an overwhelming vote by rival clubs at yesterday’s landmark meeting to take an unprecedented decision.
There was an effort to save the club owned by flamboyant businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize over the last several months with the curator accepting bids placed after the franchise went on auction recently.
Modise, who reportedly owns the intellectual property of Bloemfontein Celtic, offered R45-million for Royal AM but did not come up with the money by deadline, while Botha proposed a purchase price of R15-million, which was rejected and did not go any further.
Moodley got the most mileage with speculation rife that he had broken through in sealing an agreement to land the PSL status.
But Global Investment also failed to deposit the money in the time specified by the SARS curator and the potential deal ultimately collapsed.
The public broadcaster understands that almost all Betway Premiership clubs voted in favour of kicking out Royal AM with nearly 150 votes, while those that tried to save the club only contributed less than 40 ballots.
Premier League teams got 10 points per vote, while their Motsepe Foundation Championship rivals were allocated only two each.
All topflight clubs will now end the season on 28 games with the PSL yet to make an official announcement and confirm the updated log table.
