Proteas' World Cup fixture against Australia moved as BCCI changes schedule

The Proteas' second fixture at the World Cup against Australia has been moved a day earlier after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced changes to the initial schedule.

Temba Bavuma's charges were due to meet the Aussies in the 10-team tournament in Lucknow on 13 October but will now face their old foes on the 12th.

The Proteas kick off their campaign at the global tournament on 7 October in Delhi against Sri Lanka, who came through the qualifiers earlier this year.

Dates for the tournament, which runs from 5 October to 19 November, were first announced a month ago but a total of nine games have now been altered.

After the match against Australia, the Proteas will move on to Dharamsala on 17 October to play a the Netherlands before heading to Mumbai to take on England on 21 October.

The South Africans will remain in Mumbai for their clash against Bangladesh on 24 October before going to Chennai to take on Pakistan three days later.

Their next game will be on 1 November against New Zealand in Pune before taking on hosts India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 5 November.

The Proteas will round off their league campaign on 10 November against Afghanistan in Ahmedabad with the top four teams advancing to the semi-finals.

The marquee fixture between rivals India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad has been moved forward a day to 14 October while England have two games moved.

The opening game of the global tournament will still take place on 5 October which will see defending champions England play Zealand at the 132 000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium in a repeat of the 2019 final.

The semi-finals will be held on consecutive days on 15 November in Mumbai and 16 November in Kolkata before the showcase game three days later in Ahmedabad.
