Proteas lose all-rounder Wiaan Mulder for remainder of Test series against Sri Lanka

Proteas all-rounder Wiaan Mulder has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka due to a fractured right middle finger.

Mulder suffered the injury while batting in the first innings of the first Test at Kingsmead and was then sent for x-rays that confirmed a fracture.

Warriors batter Matthew Breetzke has been called up as a replacement and will join the Proteas squad ahead of the second Test that starts in Gqeberha next Thursday.

Despite the injury Mulder still batted in the second innings, coming in at number three and spending 41 minutes at the crease scoring 15.

The absence of seam-bowling all-rounder Mulder will pose a selection conundrum for the Proteas as they do not have a like for like replacement.

They could add an extra batter in Ryan Rickelton and only play four specialist bowlers or, if the conditions dictate, spin all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy could come into the XI.
