Proteas prepared to put in 'hard graft' to win Test series in Bangladesh

Proteas coach Shukri Conrad said the victory in the first Test in Bangladesh was "very special" but insists the tourists will still need to put in the "hard graft" to close out the series.

Conrad watched on as his team sealed a seven-wicket win inside four days in Mirpur for what was the Proteas first Test victory in the sub-continent in a decade - the last was when they beat Sri Lanka in Galle in 2014.

The Proteas mentor declared himself pleased with the performance but knows the hosts will hit back hard in the second and final Test starting in Chattogram on Tuesday.

"We won't be the underdogs again and they'll now expect a big performance from us, but we expect it of ourselves as well," Conrad said.

"We won't be 'windgat', we know we won't just rock up and win again. The conditions will still be difficult, and we will have to play our best cricket to get a positive result.

"We know that there's some hard graft that's going to have to be done along the way. That first Test match was the first one that we needed to put in the hard graft."

Bangladesh were put on the back foot on the first morning when they were bowled out for just 106 before the Proteas were also in trouble at 108-6.

Kyle Verreynne (114) though struck his second Test century and a maiden fifty in the longest format by Wiaan Mulder (54) led a recovery to a total 308 and an ultimately match-winning lead of 102 on the first innings.

Conrad insists they will not sit back in the final Test and will continue to play an attacking brand of cricket that will hopefully lead into the home summer.

"We're certainly not going to be looking to sit on our lead and we're certainly not going to bask in the glory of that victory too much," he said.

"We go to Chattogram and we know that's going to be really tough, and we're going to have to play particularly good cricket."
