Proteas set up interesting final day in rain-affected Test against West Indies

The Proteas wrapped up the West Indies innings and went to work with the bat on another weather-affected day in the opening Test in Trinidad.

Rain would allow for only two hours of play at a soggy Queens Park Oval on Day 4 on Saturday. Despite this, the Test managed to move forward significantly thanks to a flurry of wickets.

Play would finally get underway after tea with the hosts on 145/4. Kavem Hodge and Jason Holder occupied the crease, but the golden arm of Aiden Markram castled Holder. Keshav Maharaj - who would finish the day having bowled an incredible 40 overs in this innings - would dismiss Joshua da Silva, who got caught in the covers.

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma opted for the new ball and Kagiso Rabada finally got just reward for his toil on the slow pitch. David Bedingham would take an easy grab at first slip to get rid of Hodge who scrapped for his 25 off 92 balls.

A charging Rabada then snapped up Kemar Roach and Gudakesh Motie for cheap - his 293rd and 294th Test wickets - edging closer to that 300-wicket milestone. His partner in pace Lungi Ngidi clean-bowled Jayden Seals to wrap up the West Indies' innings, leaving them 233 all out.

Leading by 124 runs, Proteas' openers Tony de Zorzi and Markram went to work quickly, putting on an unbeaten 30-run partnership in the final five overs of the day. They will race against the weather on Day 5 for a result.
