Ross Adair century leads Ireland to T20 victory over South Africa

Ross Adair propelled Ireland to victory with a magnificent century in the second and final T20 International against South Africa at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday evening.

Along with captain Paul Stirling, the duo produced an opening stand of 137 for total of 195-6 and ultimately a 10-run victory.

Stirling contributed with 52 runs from just 31 balls with seven fours and a six.

Adair completed his century from 57 balls but was out to Matthew Breetzke at deep square leg from the next delivery, having smashed five fours and nine sixes.

Stirling made his exit after slicing a Patrick Kruger delivery into the gloves of wicket keeper Ryan Rickelton.

George Dockrell ended with 20 from 13 balls with just a single boundary.

Williams (4-0-35-1) and Wiaan Mulder (4-0-51-2) and spinners Bjorn Fortuin (2-0-24-0) and Nqaba Peter (2-0-29-0) all endured a difficult afternoon after South Africa had won the first match by eight-wickets chasing down Ireland's 171-8 in just 17.4 overs.

Reeza Hendricks and Ryan Rickelton, who starred in the opening game, made a promising start, and the latter raced to 34 from 19 balls but top-edged a delivery to depart for 36.

Matthew Breetzke and Hendricks worked to ensure South Africa kept pace with Ireland and Hendricks was full value for his fifty before his dismissal in the following over where Breetzke and Aiden Markram both hit a six.

With 28 needed from the final three overs, South Africa were undone as Graham Hume conceded just five runs to leave the chasing team needing 23 off 12.

Mark Adair's final over started with Mulder's wicket, while Breetzke was next out at long on, while a third wicket was the final nail in the coffin as 173/4 became 179/7 before Hume sealed the win in his final over.
