SABC Sport can reveal that AmaZulu are expected to sign defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele this weekend.
The ex- Kaizer Chiefs player was let go by the Glamour Boys at the end of last season, having joined them in 2016 under then-coach Steve Komphela.
Rama was one of the senior players at Naturena when his time with the Soweto club came to an end - in fact, it was thought he would be staying to marshal the new-look defence, but a decision was later taken not to trigger the one-year option on his contract.
He later resurfaced at SuperSport United but its understood he was only there to keep fit while searching for a new club.
Talks with AmaZulu began last week when Mphahlele was asked to make his way to Durban for an assessment and he featured for Usuthu in the KwaZulu-Natal Premiers Cup last weekend.
That has clearly done the trick as SABC Sport has learnt that the club will now offer the experienced player a contract and look to register him this weekend, with hopes he could be available for their DStv Premiership opener against TS Galaxy on Sunday at the Wits Stadium in Braamfontein.
He will become the clubs' 11th signing of the new season and will add a wealth of experience and versatility to coach Brandon Truters squad.
