Kaizer Chiefs have decided against signing striker Wayde Lekay following a two-week assessment, SABC Sport can confirm.
The Glamour Boys are searching for a replacement for the trio of Lazarous Kambole, Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro.
Although the Glamour Boys added Ashely Du Preez to their squad following his big-money transfer from Stellenbosch FC, the 24-year-old is not an out-and-out forward and coach Arthur Zwane is looking for a direct replacement.
Lekay arrived at Chiefs earlier this month for an assessment, with SABC Sport also reporting that two international strikers - Burundi international Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and Musa Kamara from Sierra Leone - would join Amakhosi in Polokwane where they were camping at the time, with the hope that theyd be offered contracts.
While theres been no update yet regarding the two foreign players, Lekay is believed to have stopped training with the Soweto giants.
The 25-year-old parted ways with TS Galaxy at the end of the season but it was only on Sunday that The Rockets confirmed he would be moving on and become a free agent as he looks at other options.
Lekay featured in 17 games for Galaxy last season but was overlooked by coach Sead Ramovic in the final stretch of the DStv Premiership campaign, so it comes as no surprise that the two parties have decided to part ways.
Theres talk Royal AM and AmaZulu have shown interest but at this stage there are no formal discussions regarding Lekays next possible destination.
