Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has confirmed to SABC Sport that midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase will be leaving the club.
The 27-year-old was in his final season with the Team of Choice and has now become a free agent, opening up an opportunity for him to look elsewhere.
We will not be renewing his contract, Kadodia told SABC Sport.
He has obviously not played a lot of games for us and, to be fair, that was something out of his control and we wish him the best of luck.
Ntshangase is a former Bidvest Wits player and was part of the squad that created history to win the Clever Boys first ever league title in nearly a century during the 2016/17 season under coach Gavin Hunt.
The club was then sold in 2020 but Ntshangase had left them a year prior, to join Maritzburg on a permanent deal and before becoming one of the club captains.
A junior international, the former SuperSport United star was also part of Team SA at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro but didnt get to graduate to the senior side, Bafana Bafana, although he has been called up by various coaches in the past.
Ntshangase, who made 15 appearances in the recently concluded 2021/22 campaign, will now look to start afresh and SABC Sport understands that he could find a home soon, possibly back in Gauteng.
