Kaizer Chiefs have been slapped with a R200 000 fine for the behaviour of their supporters at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch last month.

The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee ordered that the club pay half of the amount immediately, with the other half suspended for a period of 24 months.

This follows the pitch invasion by Amakhosi supporters during the MTN8 quarterfinal, which saw the Soweto giants progress via a penalty shootout victory, on 28 August, for which the club was charged on two counts as well as one count of delayed restarting of the match.

According the PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu, Chiefs faced the DC on Thursday evening and pleaded guilty to all charges, with the independent tribunal sanctioning the both the club as well as the League as follows:

1. [For Chiefs] a monetary fine of R200 000, of which half is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that, during the period of suspension, they are not found guilty of the same offence.

2. The League was directed to carry the cost of the sitting, as opposed to Kaizer Chiefs. This was on the understanding that the League, as the event organiser, ought to have arranged security differently.

3. Kaizer Chiefs was ordered to pay the costs, if any, of the inner perimeter fence that was breached by its supporters.

4. The League was ordered to pay the costs, if any, of the outer perimeter fence that was damaged as a result of the invasion, and due to what the DC characterised as 'inaccurate security arrangements.'

Furthermore, senior officials of the League and Chiefs have been ordered to hold a joint press conference, "at which they would be expected to convey a message to the masses out there regarding this type of ill behaviour," explained Majavu.

"It was recognised that punishing the clubs alone in these circumstances is not enough, hence the directive for the League also to shoulder some responsibility in assisting Kaizer Chiefs to address the masses, mindful of the fact that we have all emerged from Covid regulations, and maybe people have forgotten how to behave in the stadia."
