The Serbian forward spent the previous season at TS Galaxy, however the two parties surprisingly parted ways despite Nurkovic scoring 10 goals in 29 games as The Rockets finished sixth on the table.

When confirming the news to the public broadcaster last month, chairman Tim Sukazi described the decision as one forced by the difference in “strategic goals”, allowing SuperSport to engage the player immediately after.

Nurkovic will be no stranger to coach Gavin Hunt – the two worked together briefly at Kaizer Chiefs during the 2020/21 season before the latter was sacked just eight months into a three year contract.

The 32-year-old also left Naturena at the end of the following campaign to join Royal AM, again as a free agent.

But he did not make a single official appearance and is currently still at loggerheads with the KZN side over the contract that was breached, with FIFA ordering Royal AM to pay Nurkovic R12-million.

SuperSport were desperate to get in an experienced attacker after goal ace Bradley Grobler got injured at the start of the season in the MTN8 loss to Orlando Pirates and has undergone an operation sidelining him until January, at the earliest.

Hunt confirmed interest in Nurkovic to SABC Sport a few days before the transfer deadline on 20 September.

Following just one win in four Betway Premiership matches, the urgency for SuperSport to sign a striker escalated and now Nurkovic is expected to put pen to paper with the Tshwane outfit.
