Ajax determined to keep star midfielder Mohammed Kudus

Ajax head coach Maurice Steijn is hopeful he can retain the services of midfielder Mohammed Kudus.

The 22-year-old Ghanaian is attracting interest from a number of English Premier League clubs.

Kudus scored 18 goals in 42 appearances, alongside seven assists in all competitions for Ajax last season.

He turned down a one-year contract extension in April but the Dutch side are working hard to tie him down to a new deal.

Chelsea are said to have begun talks over a deal for next season, and Steijn said on Ghanasoccernet: "I feel that when Kudus decides to stay for one more year, the real top clubs will then come for him.

"If we win the league and he scores 20 goals, clubs will pay double for him. This is what we are trying to tell him now."
