Ajax's Mohammed Kudus crowned Ghana's Footballer of the Year

Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus has been awarded the prestigious title of Ghana Footballer of the Year for his outstanding performances.

Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus, an integral part of Ajax's attacking force, has been awarded the prestigious title of Ghana Footballer of the Year for his outstanding performances during the 2022-23 season, both at the club and national levels.

Kudus, 21, has attracted the attention of Premier League clubs Manchester United and Brighton following his impressive record of 11 goals and four assists in 30 appearances for the Dutch giants in the Eredivisie last season.

Although Ghana's campaign in the 2022 World Cup ended prematurely in the group stages, Kudus showcased his talent by netting two goals in the thrilling 3-2 victory over South Korea in Group H.

Ajax may face a daunting task in retaining the young talent at the Johan Cruyff Arena, given their failure to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League. They finished third, trailing league champions Feyenoord by a substantial 13 points.

Kudus triumphed over competition from Genk striker Joseph Paintsil and Lens midfielder Salid Abdul Samed to claim the coveted accolade. Ghanaian legend Asamoah Gyan presented him with the award during a ceremony on Sunday evening.

Currently representing Chris Hughton's side, Kudus has already contributed two goals in five matches, propelling them to the top of Group E in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
