Glenrose Xaba optimistic about the upcoming season

South African marathon champion Glenrose Xaba is optimistic ahead of the new season, hoping to stay injury-free and build on her achievements from last year.

The Boxer Running Club standout runner has made significant strides over the past two years and is regaining her confidence after struggling with injuries.

Excited for the challenges ahead, she says she is determined to defend both her national marathon and 10km titles, aiming for another successful season with her team.

"For 2025 I wish to continue where I stopped, I wish a great year for me, I wish to stay injury free. I wish to improve a lot when it comes to my times and win more titles," Xaba said.

The 31-year-old was surprised when she was named Athletics South Africa (ASA) Female Road Runner of the Year.

Despite breaking both the national and Cape Town Marathon records, she had not expected to win the award.

"I am very surprised I did not think that I would be nominated. I'm just grateful, thank you to ASA for the nomination and thank you for the recognition. Thanks to everyone who supported me in 2024. I really appreciate you guys, keep on supporting me, I love you a lot," Xaba added.

Xaba revealed that she is still in recovery mode after her record-breaking victory at the Cape Town Marathon in October last year.

As a result, she will not compete in the Cape Peninsula Marathon, which serves as the South African Marathon Championships, due to the race's timing.

"I will not do the marathon soon because the plan is not doing marathon it's just to try again to focus on track and short distance so that I can improve my time when it comes to 21km."
