Vincent Langat and Diana Chepkorir shine at Absa Run Your City Cape Town

Kenyan athletes Vincent Langat and Diana Chepkorir showcased their dominance once again at the Absa Run Your City Cape Town 10km event on Sunday.

Just as they did in Gqeberha last month, Langat and Chepkorir surged the Finish Line ahead of the pack in the Mother City.

Langat’s fierce sprint in the final 1km secured his victory in 27:52, earning him the coveted prize of R30 000.

Following closely behind, Gelant, the top South African finisher, clocked 27:55 and claimed R25 000, while Kenyan Francis Koumwa secured third place in 28:16, taking home R20 000.

In the women’s category, Chepkorir maintained her lead from start to finish, completing the race in 31:47.

Lesotho’s Neheng Khatala trailed behind in a time of 32:16, while Getenesh Agafew from Ethiopia claimed third place with a time of 32:48.

Cacisile Sosibo emerged as the South African female runner to cross the finish line, completing the race in 34:00.

Despite a challenging day for local runners, Gelant’s standout performance was a bright spot amidst the competition.

“This is my best win as Elroy is a fast guy,” Langat told SABC Sport. “I like him as a top runner. He pushed me today, and after 3km I was nervous that he could beat me. He was strong in this race and in the final 1km, I decided to break away and go for the victory.  I am going back home to try and attempt an Olympic qualifying time in the Olympics for the 5000m. I hope to return for the Durban race in July to record my third win of the series. Even though it is my second time in South Africa, I enjoy running in this country,” he told the national broadcaster.

Chepkorir was delighted with another win in South Africa and she decided to take charge of the race from the beginning, and it paid off as she recorded her second win in the series.

“It was a fast race, and I knew that if I go hard, I could win the competition. I came here with a solid plan and was to attack from the start. I plan to come back and win again. I would like to thank the organizers for inviting me to this beautiful race. I am happy with the time and prize money,” Chepkorir said.
