Tiger Woods sparks brief Masters frenzy with April Fool's joke

Tiger Woods briefly had the golf world in a frenzy with an April Fool's joke about playing in the 2025 Masters.

The 15-time major champion is expected to miss all fourmajors this year after undergoing surgery on a ruptured Achilles in March - an injury that typically requires up to six months of recovery. Given that Woods is 49, a return to elite competition could take even longer.

However, for a moment, many fans believed he had made a miraculous recovery. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Woods wrote:

"I can't believe I am saying this, but a few weeks after rupturing my left Achilles, the sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber plus the explosive lifts my doctors and trainers have me ready to play the Masters next week! Can't wait! See y'all on the course."

After a brief wave of excitement and confusion, reality set in as fans checked the date - April 1. Later, Woods confirmed the joke, adding:

"P.S. April Fools, my Achilles is still a mess :)."

Sadly for many fans hoping the first message was true, it turned out to be nothing but an April Fool's Joke.

While an imminent return certainly isn't on the cards, here's to hoping Woods does return to a golf course before too long.
