The Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro was packed with Brazilians eager to see former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira crowned champion once again.
But once Hill stuffed Teixeira's first seven takedowns and found great success with his striking, their enthusiasm began to wane. The American fighter consistently found a home for his jab and his head kick. Referee Marc Goddard cam close to stopping the fight on several occasions, but a bloodied Teixeira remained resolute.
After the final buzzer, Hill unsurprising swept all five rounds on the scorecards, reading him to tears. Emotion was high on the other side of the cage as well, as 43-year-old Teixeira placed his gloves on the canvas, confirming his retirement.
"I'm too tough for my own good...I'm too tough for my own health," quipped the veteran.
In the previous bout, interim champion Moreno unified the flyweight division when he defeated title-holder and crowd favourite Figueiredo after an uncontroversial doctor stoppage.
The back-and-forth fight had all the makings of their previous three wild battles until Moreno landed a looping left-hand right in the Brazilian's eyesocket. On the replay, one could see the knuckle do work on Figueiredo's right eye, causing it to swell shut a few minutes later.
The doctor was called in at the end of the third round and after a brief eye test, called an end to the contest with no contest from one-eyed Figueiredo.
Moreno was showered - not in a good way - with missiles from the partisan crown upon exiting the arena.
The main card also saw local welterweight contender Gilbert Burns make easy work of Neil Magny, submitting him via an arm triangle after just four minutes.
Brazilian Jessica Andrade put on a striking clinic against Lauren Murphy to win via unanimous decision in a fight that probably should have been stopped.
To open the main card, showman Johnny Walker landed a stunning punch while Jui-Jitsu specialist Paul Craig was attempting a single-leg takedown, wobbling the Scotsman, then fired several hammer fists to finish him on the ground in the first round.
