This is following her impressive fourth-place performance at the Total Sports Women’s race this past Wednesday.
During the 10km race held in Joburg on Women’s Day, the 35-year-old athlete completed the course in 38 minutes and one second.
This strategically chosen shorter race served as a valuable stepping stone in her preparations for the impending half-marathon in Evaton.
Approaching the task ahead with her characteristic modesty, Joubert maintains a positive outlook on her prospects, aiming to once again break the tape as she crosses the finish line in the anticipated half-marathon event.
“In the last three years, I’ve faced challenges while transitioning my training program. Overcoming injuries and switching coaches tested my resilience. Currently, I’m training alone, refining my training routine. My journey led me to an eight-place finish in the Women’s Race last year.
However, this year’s progress showcases a remarkable improvement. Half-marathon’s demanding route presents its own set of challenges.
Yet, I’m diligently preparing and tailoring my efforts to secure victory. The course’s flat terrain posed difficulties for me last year,” Joubert told SABC Sport.
There are three distances at the Evaton Mall the 5km fun walk, the 10km, and the 21.1km.
The series was established in 2018. The first race – The Telle Bridge occurred in Sterkspruit in the Eastern Cape.
The series has since expanded with the first leg taking place in Thouyandou in July this year, demonstrating the event’s popularity.
Joubert is also running the race as part of giving back to the community and supporting the up-and-coming runners.
“It’s not about the money, I do want to win but also support other runners. My advice is that they should enjoy the race and not worry about anything,” said Joubert.
She achieved her personal best in the half-marathon with a time of 72:36, accomplished in Gqeberha back in 2017.
Joubert made history in 2013 when she clinched victory in the Athletics South Africa Marathon championships, becoming the youngest South African woman to do so at the age of 24.
Looking ahead to the upcoming year, her goal is to participate in the local marathon and secure a victory in the veteran category.
“I am using the shorter races purely for speed. My main focus is now on running the marathon. I am in good shape and healthy,” said Joubert.
