Netball South Africa to unveil Jenny Van Dyk as new Proteas Coach this week

NSA President Cecilia Molokwane fulfilled her pledge of announcing the appointment of the new coach before March, as promised. Van Dyk boasting a remarkable track record as a local coach with numerous domestic netball titles, honed her skills as an apprentice under Plummer during the Proteas’ tour of Australia last October.

With a stellar coaching record, particularly evident in her achievements with the Jaguars in the Telkom Netball league with more than five titles, Van Dyk emerges as the most qualified candidate for the role.

According to a credible insider speaking to SABC Sport, it has been confirmed that Van Dyk who declined the Proteas coaching position in 2018 citing family reasons, is set to be announced as the national team’s new coach. The source emphasized, “She’s secured the role. Given her expertise, she was the natural successor to Plummer. Currently, she stands out as the most qualified local coach for the position,”

Before the tour to Australia, Van Dyk remained tight-lipped when questioned about whether she had been offered the coaching role by NSA.

“I’m neither confirming nor denying any job offer; that’s all I’m willing to disclose,” she maintained.

Nonetheless, she collaborated closely with Plummer, actively exchanging ideas throughout the Australian tour.

Molokwane, the head of the NSA, has confirmed to the national broadcaster that the new coach is a local talent.

However, she remained tight-lipped about revealing further details, urging everyone to await the official announcement on the designated day, “Our new coach is a highly qualified South African tasked with leading us to the 2027 World Cup in Australia. Regarding the captaincy, following Bongiwe Msomi’s retirement, it’s her decision, not NSA,” Molokwane stated. “I can also confirm that no overseas coaches applied for the vacant position. The official announcement will be made in March,” she added confidently.
