Proteas aiming for a consolation win in final test against Jamaica

Spar Proteas assistant coach Zanele Mdodana says they have identified areas where they need to be more clinical, ahead of their third and final test match against Jamaica on Saturday.

The Proteas went 59-47 down against the Caribbean side in the second match of the Margaret Beckford Sunshine Netball Series in Kingston on Wednesday.

Speaking at the post-match presser, Mdodana says they are happy that the team is already getting a feel of being tested against the best in the world.

"We are giving our players an opportunity to feel what it takes to compete against the top teams in the world. The more we play these guys, the better it will become for me, that's just how I feel,” Mdodana said.

“The more we're gonna learn and understand how to show that pressure and be able to stay in it, not only physically but also mentally. So, I'm happy with the troops, we know the areas that we still need to be a little more clinical on and really find that combination that is going to bridge that gap for us.

“I don't see why people are dropping their shoulders, feeling despondent, this is just a beginning, we are starting on this journey and we can only grow from strength to strength from here."

Mdodana adds that despite the second match defeat she believes the Proteas showed improvement compared to their opening match last Saturday.

"Tough one but strange enough I think we showed up better today than what we did in the first one. I just saw an energised and switched-on side,” she added.

“For me it's also about, we need to understand that we are playing the third-ranked team in the world that is so experienced and we are giving our players an opportunity to feel what it takes to compete against the top teams in the world."
