Team SA dominates African Championships

Having collected 19 medals going into day four, Team SA dominates the African Athletics Senior Championships Mauritius, with five gold medals, seven silver, and seven bronze medals.

SA sprint sensation Miranda Coetzee and rising pole vault star Mire Reinstorf secured continental titles on Friday.

Coetzee bagged a gold in the women™s 400m crossing the finishing line in 51.82 seconds. Reinstorf sailed over the bar at 3.80m in the women™s pole vault final. SA bagged silver in the men™s 4x100m relay final 39.79 seconds finishing behind Kenya (39.28).

œI™m the new African Champ for 2022 and it feels awesome. This is my first African Champs, I™m very excite-at least I took a gold medal for my country and I am very proud of that said Coetzee.

The almost forgotten sprinter Henricho Bruintjies won a continental medal finishing in second place behind his compatriot Akani Simbine (9.93).

He also secured third place in the men™s 100m in 10.01 and added a silver medal in the relay.

Kenya™s Ferdinand Omanyala won the 100m title in 9.93 seconds beating Simbine in a photo finish.

œIt was good to get up here and get two medals. I™ve been struggling with injury for a couple of years now.

Just to get back where I was and where I am now, it amazes to get back in the podium, any medal is a medal for me.

"I am working on a lot of things, coming back from injury like I said I am getting slowly on my grip now and we are aiming for the next Olympic,slowly but surely we getting there because at the end of the day we always want to be the best Henricho told the media.
