South African Veteran para-athlete Charl Du Toit has announced his retirement from the sport in style last night, when he won a silver medal in the mens T37/T38 100m final in a Commonwealth Games record and season bests 11.54 seconds.
Du Toit, took lane 7, in the T37 100m to cross the finish line second, behind Evan O'Hanlon of Australia who took gold in a T38 Games record time of 11.23.
Im officially announcing my retirement from athletics and this was my very last race, I couldn't have asked for a more storybook ending.
"Tears of joy and tears of excitement and this was a very special race for me.I cant wait to get to my coach now" said Du Toit.

The 29-year-old sprinter end his career in good note after he competed at two Summer Paralympic Games, London 2012 and Rio 2016. In 2016 Summer Olympics, won gold medals in the 100m and 400m races, setting a world record in the latter.

Du Toit, born with cerebral palsy has hinted that this does not mean the end of him in the sport world, he hopes to be involved in athletics in some capacity in the future.
