Currie Cup: Cheetahs claim bonus-point victory over WP, Lions maul Pumas

Western Province initially led 13-0, with Jurie Matthee's penalties and an Angelo Davids try setting the pace.

However, the Cheetahs fought back, despite difficult handling conditions. Tries from Victor Sekekete, Carl Wegner, and Daniel Kasende turned the tide, with their scrum dominance playing a crucial role, especially in the second half.

Western Province faced setbacks with injuries to Imad Khan and Asad Moos, leading to last-minute team changes.

Justin Geduld's early exit due to injury further hampered their efforts. Matthee kept Western Province in contention with consistent penalty kicks.

The Cheetahs took the lead early in the second half, with Jeandre Rudolph scoring a late try, converted by Reinhardt Fortuin, to extend their lead to 26-16. Western Province managed a last-minute penalty, securing a losing bonus point.

The Cheetahs' resilience and ability to adapt to the wet conditions were key to their victory, maintaining their flawless run with six wins from six matches.

Western Province, despite a strong start, were unable to sustain their momentum in the face of the Cheetahs' relentless pressure.

Lions maul Pumas at Ellis Park

Ruan Venter scored a hat-trick of tries as Lions mauled the Pumas 55-12 in their Currie Cup clash at Ellis Park on Saturday.

The Lions scored four tries either side of the halftime break in a bonus-point victory for a second consecutive win in the tournament.

First-half tries from centre Kelly Mpeku, scrumhalf Nico Steyn, blindside flanker Venter and flyhalf Bronson Mills, who also kicked two conversions and a penalty, powered the hosts to 27-5 lead at the interval.

The Pumas scored their second try after the restart when right winger Darren Adonis crossed the whitewash.

Venter however went over the tryline twice from close range, and Mills was on song from the kicking tee for both touchdowns, to extend the home side's advantage on the scoreboard to 41-12.

Jarod Cairns added his name to the scoresheet, with replacement Sibabalo Qoma banking the eighth try in an emphatic win for the Lions on home soil.

Bulls maintain top spot after hammering the Griffons

The Bulls hammered the Griffons 55-21 at Loftus to maintain their unbeaten start to the Currie Cup campaign.

The home team scored nine tries in the contest while the Griffons went over the whitewash three times in a high-scoring game.

Wing Sibongile Novuka scored two of the Bulls' tries while experienced centres Lionel Mapoe and Cornal Hendricks also dotted down five-pointers.

The Griffons for their part were always in the fight but could not hold off a rampant home side who cemented top spot on the table.

Springbok Canan Moodie has a decent outing, going over for the Bulls third try of the contest as eases he continues to ease his way back from injury.

Novuka completed the try-scoring with his second at the death, as the Bulls went past the 50-point mark and take a comprehensive win.
