Erasmus meets with World Rugby over clashes

SA Rugby director of rugby Rassie Erasmus this week met with World Rugby following constant run-ins over the outspoken former coach's conduct.

SA Rugby on Saturday confirmed that a meeting took place between World Rugby CEO Alan Gilpin and World Rugby Director of Rugby Phil Davies on Thursday.

This follows World Rugby's two-match ban handed down on Erasmus over his recent posts on social media, in which he was deemed to have been targeting match officials, much like the infamous 62-minute video that previously earned him a two-month ban.

"Views were exchanged resulting in a better understanding of the respective positions," read a statement from SA Rugby.

"There was agreement that further dialogue was needed in terms of enhancing the process that operates between teams and match officials to ensure all can play their part in creating great spectacles and avoid frustration but in a way that underpins the respect for match officials, coaches and players.

"Further dialogue will continue after today’s final Springbok test of the year."

The Boks take on England in their final end-of-year tour of Europe at Twickenham this evening (19:30 SA time).

The 50-year-old will miss the encounter as he serves out his second and final Test ban, which prohibits him from all matchday activities as well as speaking to the media.
