Etzebeth sustained a shoulder injury against Munster in the Champions Cup at the beginning of April and had initially been ruled out for 14 weeks but the 31-year-old says he should be fit and raring to go for the Rugby Championship opener against Australia on July 8.
I aim to be ready for the Rugby Championship, but then everything will have to go well, which I believe will happen, Etzebeth told Rapport.
After the Wallabies Test, the Boks face All Blacks in Auckland on 15 July and finishing the shortened Rugby Championship against Argentina in Johannesburg on 29 July.
Meanwhile, lock Salmaan Moerat and utility back Frans Stey are also facing a race against time to be ready for the cross-hemisphere showpiece.
It will be a perfect opportunity for the Boks to guage their process ahead of the World Cup later this year
