Homeward bound: Racing 92 confirms Siya Kolisi's departure

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi is officially on his way back to South African shores after being released from his contract with Racing 92.

While it has already been widely reported that the double World Cup-winning captain was on his way out, the French club released a statement on Sunday officially confirming Kolisi's departure.

"Siya Kolisi and Racing 92 have announced that they have mutually agreed to terminate the contract biding the South African third row to the club until 2026," it read.

"Both parties thank each other for the sporting moments in the sky blue and white jersey and wish each other in the future."

Kolisi ran out 18 times for Racing 92 since signing for them last year. Speaking to French publication L'Equipe, Kolisi revealed he was grateful for how the difficult situation was handled.

"We reached an agreement with the club and I am grateful for the way they handled the situation," said the 33-year-old.

"When I arrived in Paris, I didn't know what the future of my international career was but when I started playing for the national team again [in June], I realised that my body has no rest.

"And above all, if I play for South Africa, I miss three months of the Top 14 season. I am very well paid and it makes me feel like I am stealing from Racing.

"So, for me, my physical health and the club, I want to do what is right, I don't want to only invest half of myself.

"When they recruited me, they thought they had a full-time Siya Kolisi. But I love playing for South Africa so much, I want to continue with the Springboks."

On Monday morning, the Sharks' social media confirmed that Kolisi will be back in the black and white of the Durban franchise.
