Lions tie down another prop for the future

The Lions have bolstered their front-row depth for the long term with the extension of prop PJ 'Bere' Botha's contract.

Tighthead prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye recently secured a two-year contract extension, and now hooker Botha has confirmed he will remain in Johannesburg at least until 2028.

In addition, the Lions have managed to retain No. 8 Francke Horn and center Henco van Wyk as they look to build on a strong 2024-25 season that could see them reach the Vodacom URC playoffs for the first time in their history.

Botha, the son of former Springbok prop BJ, has featured in seven URC and three Challenge Cup matches so far this season.

Since his debut in 2019, the 27-year-old has made 92 appearances across all competitions for the Lions.

"I just want to say a sincere thank you for all the support over the past eight years," Botha said in a statement.

"It is a privilege to represent Johannesburg with this team and management.

"I look forward to continuing to be part of the Lions family and making a difference."

The Lions will take on the Stormers in a United Rugby Championship Round 11 clash at Ellis Park on Saturday.
