OX Nche honoured to inspire through Springboks

Springbok prop Retshegofaditswe 'Ox' Nche says inspiring the next generation of players from black communities is an honour and hopes to continue to impact them through his job as a professional rugby player.

Ox was addressing the media on Saturday evening, after his outstanding performance in a thrilling second Test against Ireland, where South Africa lost 25-24 at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park in Durban.

The Boks have made huge strides in the last seven years, winning back-to-back IRB World Cups.

''I mean, I also had people that I looked up to. When I was still in high school I used to watch the likes of Trevor Nyakane, Raymond Rhule back in the Free State. Like Rassie would say, it doesn't belong to you, the Springboks jersey belongs to the people of South Africa. The more people I inspire, the more people I get to see them pursue their dreams. I think that's my job done,'' said Nche.

Supporters in Durban came in their numbers to fill up the stadium. Ox who is also playing for Hollywoodbets Sharks was not surprised by the turnout with hopes that Durban can host more Springboks games.

''Definitely, I play here. I know how the people of Durban are, how much love they have for Rugby and their love for the Springboks,'' added Nche.

Ireland stole a victory in the last minute of the game, through a drop goal by Ciaran Frawley, to win. The Springboks prop reflecting on the game, felt the visitors did their homework well to overcome Rassie Erasmus' tactics.
