'Rugby is for all of us' - Siya Kolisi calls for greater support of women's game

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi has thrown his support firmly behind the women's game and its ever-impressive growth.

The inspirational leader, who is fresh off a Rugby Championship title, got straight into supporting the Women's Springboks in the WXV 2 where he has been seen in full kit supporting his compatriots.

Kolisi, however, did not limit his support just to South Africa as he visited the Welsh camp and handed out the Wallaroos jerseys ahead of their Test against Scotland.

As one can imagine his exploits have gathered much attention and he has called on men to show their support for the Women's game. Kolisi underlined why it is so important for the sport as a whole and how his South African ethos can help.

"Where I come from when someone struggles, you help," he told The Good, The Scaz and The Rugby podcast.

"The girls are playing the same sport as me and they need help right now, so I go and help. That is how I was raised.

"Without my community I wouldn't be here, without my grandmother and my aunt I wouldn't be the person I am today.

"So when you have a platform, it is how many people can you take with you? It is not just about you."

The Springboks skipper explained the importance of the WXV and unpacked how time together as a team is so important.

"WXV is so important - it creates more opportunities," he added.

"For us as men, we have three games in June or July, then the Rugby Championship and then another three or four at the end of the year tour â- it might be 13 games.

"The more time we spend together, the better we get, and that is what they [Springbok women] need.

"If we help the women's game grow, it means rugby is growing, more are playing and exposed to rugby - we are all benefitting and eating out of that."
