SANZAAR have confirmed the schedule for the Castle Lager Rugby Championship which will kick off with the Springboks and the All Blacks squaring off in South Africa in August.
South Africa will host New Zealand in Nelspruit on 6 August and then in Johannesburg on 13 August, while Argentina will welcome Australia to Mendoza and San Juan on the same dates.
The new schedule will see a 'mini-tour' format introuced through a 12-match program, with each team playing each other twice at home and away, over a two-year period, before wrapping up in 2023 - this format will then continue in 2024 until 2025.
"Australia and New Zealand will always play a split home and away series, as will South Africa and Argentina," explained a report on the Springboks Rugby website.
"The mini-tour concept is locked in until the end of 2025 and SANZAAR and the national unions believe this new format will excite fans by bringing back rugby's traditional touring values and make for an even more exciting Championship.
"The format will also reduce the travel component, therefore, alleviating player welfare concerns and the amount of travel teams have to undertake."
