White Hails Springboks’ Effort as Munster Looms in URC

Bulls’ Director of Rugby Jake White praised their lock Cameron Hanekom for his positive impact in the EPCR Challenge Cup quarter-final against Edinburgh in Scotland.

Despite an end to their campaign with a 34-28 defeat to the Scottish side, Hanekom alongside Canan Moodie still stood out with tireless work rates.

Hanekom made 13 tackles for the visitors, providing the grunt needed to try and shift momentum.

White adds that it was pleasant to turn to his “Bomb Squad” of Springboks who came from the bench to raise the tempo in the second half.

''I think he got better and better as the game went on. I know I said it, it will come with time, you can fast forward that. He will get better and he needs to understand that people will start putting people on him to add pressure, and that is no different to any young player who comes through the ranks,'' said White.

Springbok wing Canan Moodie was introduced in the 43rd minute, returning to action after a head injury assessment.

Despite limited game time and being on the losing side, he made the most line breaks (4) and the third-most carries (9) on the day.

Jake White on Moodie’s flair…

''He's got class, he's been out for a while. I am happy for him. He went to a stage when he came back into the team from international rugby. The way he played, it will open great doors for him. We tried to win this game but it wasn't to be. There's no nice way to lose but we have a lot of positives to take from this match,'' added White.

Flyhalf Johan Goosen also added a spark following a long-term knee injury.

He nailed two conversions and tested Edinburgh with some dangerous high balls…

''He came back from a long injury, he played 20 minutes last week and 40 minutes today. His display today showed how important he is to the team,'' he expressed.

White says striking the right balance between chasing wins and managing player workload will be key…

The Bulls are currently third in the URC standing following Leinster and Warriors.
