Senong was recently appointed head of development at Sekhukhune United and has taken the massive task of unearthing gems for the senior team.
"We have an ABC Motsepe team, and we also have the DStv Diski Challenge team, so it's important that we try to look for 18, 17, and 19-year-old players that are talented that we can recruit into our programs. So that's why I'm going to be part of the tournament”, Senong told SABC Sport.
The new role at Sekhukhune means Senong gets to work on a project he’s always been passionate about from his days at the South Africa Football Association (Safa), although he confessed he may be swimming in the dark.
"I've always been a believer that without the youth there's no future, so it's still my philosophy and passion. Always developing players, it's always developing coaches, so I really enjoy this position so far, this role, it's been three weeks, it's very interesting, but challenging because you're starting from nowhere," he claimed.
The Kay Motsepe Schools Cup has two teams per province and Senong expects to see scouts from other Premier Soccer League clubs given the reputation the tournament has built over the years.
